May serve to stimulate biofilm maturation, probably via the Rcs phosphorelay. Mild overexpression at 16 degrees Celsius increases the production of colanic acid, an exopolysaccharide and matrix component, and reduces adhesive curli fimbriae expression. Both of these effects require RcsB.
